Bedroom Before and After

This post has been such a long time coming!  Today, I am finally posting the before and after of the bedroom renovation of our home.

The first photos I am sharing are of the room when we first purchased the home.  We ended up not changing much at all in this room except for the dirty, old carpet.  We removed all of that, and also the particle board that had started to decay and fall apart.  It was a lot of back-breaking work, and we ended up taking many weeks to complete just the removal.

I think this wood paneling was probably put in place back in the 1970's.  I am not a huge fan of the dark wood, but I just could not bring myself to paint over something that still looked brand new, as far as wear, after more than 40 years.  Perhaps some day I will end up painting it, but we still have far too much to work on in the rest of the house to bother at this time.

Here it is!  The next picture (below) shows the end result, as of now.  I am so thrilled to finally get this room done!

The pictures on the wall behind the bed are from Roses Discount Stores, as are the matching mirrors.
Roses is one of my favorite places to shop for low cost home items and decor, other than second hand stores.
The rug is also from Roses (their store in Oxford, North Carolina).  I really love the pattern, and I think it goes very well with the rest of the decor.

Next up from Roses is the red bedspread.  It is one of the more recent purchases.  It cost $15, and includes matching shams that I am not using in these photos.  The gold shams are from Goodwill, as are the two smaller pillows.
The large brown pillows are from Roses.

The gold curtains were five table cloths that only cost 50 cents apiece, at Goodwill.  They block out a decent amount of light.  I had been looking for curtains for months, and could not find anything I wanted in stores, so I am very happy to end up with these, for now, so inexpensively!
I still need to hem the bottoms!

The gold and marble table at the foot of the bed is something I found on Facebook Marketplace.  I painted the brown wood gold to match my other furniture, and I am so happy with how it looks!  It is just the right size for this room.

The nightstands have faux marble tops, and were brown wood.  I spray painted them gold, and I love the color combination!  The were $10 each at Goodwill.

This gorgeous gold mirror (below) only cost ten dollars at a flea market!  I placed it over my black vanity from Best Choice Products.

The tiny desk to the right, which my husband sometimes uses, is from Goodwill.  It is amazing how we finally found tiny furniture to fit in just the right places to make this room work for us!

The white chairs are also from Best Choice Products.  I love that they are lightweight, making them easy for me to move around the room as needed.

These matching lamps (below) cost about $10 at Habitat For Humanity.   I was so happy to find these lamps to match my decor, and at such a good price!

The tissue box is from Goodwill, and I thought it matched the decor very well, also.  The white jewelry box is one I bought for around three dollars at Walmart.  I use it to store things like remotes, and lip balm.

This painting (below) was a gift from my mother.  I love how well it goes with the colors in the room.  It is a perfect match!  I think it really complements the gold chest of drawers as well, which I purchased from Habitat for Humanity.  I spray painted the chest gold, and I am so happy with how it looks, and how useful it is!

The brown jewelry chest to the left is one I have had since I was a little girl.  It works perfectly for the small space where it fits.  I still use it for my jewelry.

The cherry desk to the right only cost $20 at a thrift store.  It is a very small roll-top.  Unfortunately, I can't close the top with the computer monitor I am using, so it, and the small crate I have under it, are a little unsightly.

This bar (below) from Best Choice Products works perfectly in this space, as my TV stand!  That is very lucky!  I intend to place the TV on the wall at a later date, so I can clear the top of the bar for even more horizontal surface space.

The small rug at the door is another Roses purchase.

Park Lane Glassware by Colony

This glassware was made by "Colony." "Colony" was one of a series of companies that produced glassware in the early 19th Century until the mid-20th Century. Those interested in the history of these companies can find it on various other websites, including Ohio Glass . NOTE: This vintage glassware is not to be confused with Park Lane "full lead crystal" ware by Mikasa . Libertad and I discovered Park Lane glassware at secondhand stores early in our relationship. I believe that some blue glass pieces of it were among my earliest purchases of glassware in San Antonio, Texas, where Libertad and I were married in 2009.  For our first Valentine's Day together, in 2008, she took me to a store in Shockoe Bottom, in Richmond, Virginia; I think it was La Diff . I decided to buy a set of four, handblown glass tumblers, allegedly made in Mexico. They have what appear to be drops of blood all over them, blown into the glass. I thought they looked appropriate for V...
It's been forever since I last posted, so I decided to start again in what is my favorite season for decorating.  Fall! In this tablescape, I have a plaid tablecloth I recently purchased from Dollar General.  I love the addition of the blue in the fall colors of the plaid.  It is somewhat unexpected.  ' The bright orange, glass pumpkin was a HomeGoods find last month.  The wooden board it is on is from Ross.  All of these items were around only $10 each! The stack of plates were thrifted.  I loved the neutral look of them, and I think they worked well for these setting, even though they have snow flakes on them. And I almost forgot to mention!  The cookie is from Walmart bakery! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Porches and Petals (@porchesandpetals)

Pioneer Woman Tablecloth

I recently purchased this beautiful blue floral table lcloth by Pioneer Woman from walmart.com for under $20.  I went with the largest one available to make sure that I had enough for my dining room table. I thought id it was too large, I could use the excess fabric to make matching napkins. I'm very happy with the print of this tablecloth, I particularly wanted the beautiful blue and white to showcase my yellow and green lemon plates that I purchased from the Dollar Tree last year.  I think the colors and patterns are going to work very well to showcase lots of other dishes and tableware as well. The blue and yellow toile napkins that are on the table are ones that I made from extra scraps of fabric that I had lying around the house. They are not a standard shape and size of napkins but for just me and my family, I don't really care and they worked out just fine.
